Health and Safety / HR Coordinator


The Health and Safety/HR Coordinator will report directly to the Human Resources Manager and is responsible for the coordinator and workflow of the health and safety department and assist in the day to day tasks of Human Resources as pertaining to primarily the production employees. The Health and Safety/HR Coordinator will support the HR department in the following functions, including and not limited to: assisting the creation and fostering of a positive working environment focused on employee growth and recognition, employee relations, health and safety enforcement, training and development, performance evaluations, full cycle recruitment, organizational restructuring, all HR and Health and Safety related initiatives as well as all administration associated.

  • Primarily focused on Health and Safety and HR initiatives as related to the production employees. Assists in the initiation, development and implementation of health and safety awareness through programs, systems and engagement activities;
  • Active member of the  Joint Health and Safety Committee through maintaining up to date knowledge of all legislation, organizing committee meetings, developing and managing VB health and safety program, performing investigations, handling escalations, generating and completing reports, manage first aid kit supplies and procedures, training and development of hourly and salaried staff, implementing corrective procedures, acting as Health and Safety officer for all employees and all administrative tasks associated;
  • Assists in full cycle recruitment for all VB positions (salaried and hourly) as required. Able to facilitate tasks including: job analysis, generating accurate job descriptions, job postings, selection, conducting and participating in interview process with hiring managers, hiring, onboarding, developing and implementing training and expectation plan, acting as advisor for performance evaluations, generating succession plans and conducting terminations;
  • Assists in the development training initiatives with department managers with follow through from development to successful implementation designed to target product training, process training and job-related training, develop job instructions, skill matrix, and job rotation strategies to assist in departmental development;
  • Maintains information databases: spreadsheets, tracking sheets, logs updates on Health and Safety and HR project initiatives and provide HR reports as required;
  • Assists in the coordination of all WSIB claims including completion of paperwork, issuing and monitoring modified duties, creating and administrating safe return to work programs for injured workers and focusing on implementing safe working procedures following VB policies;
  • Participates and provides advice on legal matters including: mediations, wrongful dismissal claims, WSIB hearings, human rights claim as well as maintaining accurate documentation in all transactions;
  • Maintains accurate information for all employees including: tracking sheets, logs, training records, leaves of absences, lay-offs, compensation adjustments and generate relevant HR reports for statistical analysis and management presentations;
  • Assists in the onboarding and orientation of all new employees including developed expectations, department tours, coordinating resources and all onboarding paperwork;
  • Communicates and enforces all VB policies to all employees and acts as advisor for correct procedures;
  • Handles and coordinate highly sensitive and confidential information on a daily basis;
  • Organizes and coordinates employee engagement events for all employees including: BBQs, Christmas parties and all other employee appreciation events and,
  • Other duties as required.


  • 2+ years experience in Human Resources role with strong emphasis on Health and Safety;
  • CHRP designation is considered an asset;
  • Post-secondary education with focus on HRM;
  • Manufacturing experience or similar industry experience considered an asset;
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of all Federal and Provincial Employments Standards, Occupational Health & Safety, Human Rights, WSIB, etc.,
  • Strong ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously and handle large workloads;
  • Proficient computer skills utilizing MS Office, Visio and HRM programs;

  • Proven success in a fast-paced environment;
  • Strong conflict resolution skills with the ability to navigate well in ambiguity;
