Style Trends

Clean and simple. These two words best describe the latest design trends that have appeared in the last few years. Indeed, the Contemporary look is all the rage these days, taking us back to the design style of the 1970s.

When it comes to windows and doors, it means large openings with unobstructed views, clean lines and rich colours. While windows wore a Colonial look, with heritage grilles, in the 1990s and the early 2000s, we have now moved to a minimalist look with ample glass surfaces that eases the visual transition from the interior to the exterior of the house.

Commercial brown, black, charcoal, metallic or glacier white aluminum is often chosen by homeowners for the exterior of the house. Grilles are less popular with this new Contemporary look, unless they are featured as a strong vertical or horizontal accent to the window.

Front doors follow the same trend as windows, with minimalist-style decorative glass to allow light to flow into the house along with full-size sidelight.

Furthermore, aluminum windows used in commercial structures have started to appear in residential construction. It is not uncommon to see a house built with a three-storey window wall overlooking the backyard next to a large commercial patio door that opens the living room up to the patio and pool area.
