What is Your Style?

Whether you decide to build a new home, renovate or just add a little bit of curb appeal, knowing your design style can help you develop a successful plan. You’ll also gain a greater appreciation of the way your house was designed and built.

What is Your Style?

When it comes to style, there are three main design trends: Traditional, Country and Contemporary. Let’s look at each of them to better understand how it can relate to your window and door choices.

TRADITIONAL

Style traditionnel

The Traditional home style remains the most popular design style in North America. Warm and inviting, the traditional design reminds us of the 19th century, with its understated elegance and grand style. It offers the comfort and warmth of our childhood homes. When it comes to building or renovating a traditional home, casement windows, architectural shapes and French doors will often be used.

COUNTRY

The Country look is cheerful and practical. It’s about softening the edges for an inviting and comfortable environment. Furniture can be purchased at a flea market or taken from Grandma’s attic. Floral or patterned fabrics will often be seen amongst bright paint colours. Hung windows, sliding patio doors and shutters will fit perfectly with a Country style.

Contemporary

Style traditionnel

Inspired by urban lofts, this minimalist design style is uncluttered, with strong vertical and horizontal lines. Every shape makes a statement with clean lines and sleek textures. Glacier white, deep espresso and rich black colours are often used to contrast with stainless steel and the occasional citrus green or electric orange accents. Contemporary homes feature large hybrid windows with an aluminum exterior painted in deep colours and a minimalist white PVC interior.

No matter which style you decide to pick, remember that you are choosing a look that will stay with you for years to come. Make sure that you love it!
